Korea Fair Trade Commission Proposes Amendments to E-Commerce Act

On March 26, 2024, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (“KFTC”) proposed amendments to the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce (“E-Commerce Act”). The proposed amendments to the statute (“Proposed Amendments”) are aimed at preventing consumer harm frequently arising from transactions with overseas businesses and at providing swift redress for individual consumer grievances. Interested companies may submit comments through May 7, 2024.

The Proposed Amendments will require overseas businesses to designate a local representative and introduce a consent decree system.
