The National Assembly Passed the Framework Act on Artificial Intelligence

The plenary session of the Korean National Assembly voted to pass the “Act on Artificial Intelligence Development and Establishing a Foundation of Trust” (the “AI Act”) on December 26, 2024. On November 26, 2024, the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee of the Korean National Assembly unanimously approved a bill to enact the AI Act, combining 19 AI-related bills submitted during the 22nd National Assembly, and on December 17, 2024, the bill was approved in the plenary session of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee. As the plenary session of the Korean National Assembly passed the bill on December 26, 2024, the AI Act is enacted, making South Korea one of the first countries after the European Union to establish comprehensive legislation regulating AI.
