Highlights of the PIPC’s Guideline on Measures to Secure the Safety of Personal Information

On October 31, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) published the Guideline on Measures to Secure the Safety of Personal Information (the “Guideline”). This Guideline incorporates recent amendments to the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), its Enforcement Decree (“Enforcement Decree”), and the Standards for Measures to Secure the Safety of Personal Information (the “Notice”) amended in September 2023. This newsletter outlines the key aspects of the Guideline and explains the enhanced data security obligations introduced by the amended Notice.
