Son, Seung Woo
Introduction
Senior Advisor Son, Seung Woo currently serves as Co-Director of the Technology Export-Import Control Response Center within IP & Technology Group at Yulchon LLC. After earning a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from the University of Wisconsin, he has served as a professor at Dankook University (Law Department) and Chung-Ang University (Department of Industrial Security), conducting in-depth research and education for many years. Dr. Son also served as the President of the Korea Institute of Intellectual Property (KIIP), a public institution under the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), where he played a pivotal role in shaping IP and technology policies. In 2025, he joined Yulchon, bringing with him a wealth of experience and expertise. Dr. Son has provided legal and policy advisory services across a wide spectrum of areas including patents, copyrights, trade secrets, industrial and defense technologies, strategic goods, artificial intelligence (AI), and data. His advisory work has supported both private sector clients and key government agencies such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the National Intelligence Service, the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. He is particularly well-versed in international regulatory developments, including the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and export control regimes. His deep understanding of global technology competition and industrial security makes him a leading expert in legal and policy strategies in these domains. To date, Dr. Son has authored 85 academic papers and 34 books, continuing his significant scholarly contributions.
