Introduction
Sung Woo Kim received his LL.B from Seoul National University. Before joining Yulchon, Mr. Kim served as a judge at criminal and civil divisions of Anyang Branch of Suwon District Court, Busan District Court, and Seoul Central District Court until 2013. Mr. Kim also specialized in domestic relations and juvenile offense matters, serving as a judge at Seoul Family Court from 2013 to 2019, and he was in charge of the case of commencement of limited guardianship of Shin Kyuk-ho, the founder of Lotte, in 2015. Mr. Kim significantly contributed to solidifying the foundation of adult guardianship system in Korea by, among others, planning the establishment of the Adult Guardianship Center at Seoul Family Court in 2017 and authoring Adult Guardianship in Practice in 2018. From 2018 to 2019, he served as a presiding judge of a panel that handled appeals in various family litigations on joint inheritance, co-ownership, divorce, and property division. Recognized as one of the leading experts in succession, guardianship, and family law matters, Mr. Kim has given lectures on succession and adult guardianship at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Korean Bar Association, and Seoul Bar Association every year since 2015, and served as a network judge designated under the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.
