In this information age, the need to protect personal information is paramount.  Yulchon recognized early the importance of protecting personal information and has been advising clients on a variety of legal issues regarding various Korean laws on information protection (“information protection laws”), such as the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection, the Use and Protection of Credit Information Act, and the Protection of Communications Secrets Act.  In 2011, Yulchon formed a specialized Information Protection Team in conjunction with the enactment of the Personal Information Protection Act, which laid down the fundamental groundwork for protecting information in Korea.  Utilizing its deep understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of information protection, the Information Protection Team actively contributed to the drafting and enactment of the Enforcement Decree, Enforcement Regulations, and Ministry of Public Administration and Security’s Guidelines on Protection of Personal Information.  The Information Protection Team has provided and continues to provide sound legal advice on compliance with the information protection laws to various public organizations, companies and financial institutions.  Furthermore, Yulchon provides legal advice on formulating countermeasures to prevent disclosure of personal information, and represents clients in related legal disputes.
