Yulchon Successfully Implemented the Project for the Establishment of a Standard System of EU General Data Protection Regulation

Yulchon successfully implemented a project for the establishment of an overall standard system of EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) for a client’s headquarters for a duration of two months from April to June 2018 (“Project”).

Although the client had established and operated a highly advanced data protection system based on Korean laws, it entrusted the Project to Yulchon’s data protection team in order to ensure a proactive preparation for and in compliance with the GDPR, which came into force on May 25, 2018.

The essence of the Project was to provide legal advice on determining the scope of the applicability of the GDPR and the issues related to its operation, including defining the relationship between the client’s headquarters and the local subsidiary/branch in the EU region, by analyzing their data mapping. In particular, it was important to incorporate the requirements of the GDPR naturally into the data protection system of the client’s headquarters, which had been operated in accordance with the Korean laws. To that end, Yulchon conducted an in-depth analysis of the business of the client’s headquarters that mainly focuses on B2B activities within the EU region.

Moreover, Yulchon presented specific action plans based on local laws and regulations by cooperating with Squire Patton Boggs, a European law firm, further enhancing customer satisfaction. The Project is very meaningful as it demonstrates the competence of Yulchon’s data protection team by playing a leading role in the global data protection compliance project.

The Project was conducted by professionals of Yulchon’s C&F Group, including Attorneys Doil Son, Sun Hee Kim and Yoon Ah Ko.
